Prediction: Over 5 (+130)

Key Points:

  • Bruins are 5-3 to the over on the road in the post-season.
  • Hawks are 5-3-3 to the over on home ice during the playoffs.
  • Hawks are 5-0 to the over in their last 5 Stanley Cup Finals games.
  • Both teams among the leaders in goals per game during the playoffs.
  • Excellent speed and offensive depth on both teams.

If game one was an indication of what we are to expect in the Stanley Cup Finals then we should be in for one hell of a series. The Hawks took game one 4-3 in triple overtime. The Bruins lead for the majority of the game as they had a 1-0 lead after the first and a 2-1 lead after the 2nd. Boston then took a 3-1 lead six minutes into the third. Normally this would be game over for the opposition but the Hawks made it 3-2 a couple minutes later and then tied it with 8 minutes to play in the third. After that there was not another goal for just over an hour of play. Both goalies were spectacular in game one making 50+ saves a piece. It was a back and forth affair over the two and a half overtime periods but eventually the Hawks won it thanks to an Andrew Shaw goal just after the midway mark of the third overtime. Home teams continued their dominance in the playoffs particularly in overtime. The Bruins will definitely want to make amends for blowing their game one 3rd period lead so we should be in for another great game tonight.

The 4-3 final in game one probably came as a shock to many onlookers and gamblers as both of these teams appeared to be more prone to unders but the over came through thanks to both teams burying the majority of their scoring chances. Overall in the playoffs the Bruins are 8-7-2 to the over while the Hawks are 7-6-5 to the under. On the road the B’s are 5-3 to the over in the post-season while the Hawks check in with a 5-3-3 over mark at home. Both of these teams have a lot of offensive depth and the ability to score in bunches despite their top notch goaltenders. They don’t have much relevant history against each other as they have only played 4 times since 2010 so I don’t believe their past results hold much weight when considering a play in this one. The Bruins are 2nd in scoring average in the playoffs with a 3.12 goals per game average. The Hawks are close behind at 2.83 goals a game. An interesting stat I found is that the Hawks are 5-0 to the over in their last 5 Stanley Cup Finals games.

I expect the intensity to pick up in this one and for the Bruins to look to punish the Hawks a bit more than they did in the first game. I liked what I saw in game one as both teams were surgical on their scoring chances and opportunities. I expect a similar game to the first game and think the probability of both teams getting at least two goals is high. Both teams have excellent goalies without a doubt but I really like the chances of at least a push on the 5 total. These teams are still quite unfamiliar with each other so expect another game or two before they really figure each other out and we see some lower scoring games. Both teams have a ton of talent and speed in which to exploit the other’s defencemen with. I see a 4-2 final for either side in this game.

Pick: Over 5 (+130)

I grew up an avid sports fan and that transitioned to sports betting for me at the age of 21. I have always been obsessed with numbers and stats and used to keep track of my own player and team stats back before the internet took off. I would say fantasy sports was the springboard that led me to sports betting as I liked the competitiveness and rewards of it. I have a regular 9-5 job as well and learned the hard way many years ago that it is very tough to make a living off of gambling. For me I treat it more of a hobby now and as an income supplement. Having money on the game makes the games all that more enjoyable (and stressful sometimes) and I find myself watching sports I would never watch due to this. Hockey is definitely my bread and butter as I know the sport inside and out. I am from BC, Canada and am an avid Canucks fan. I also am a big Bluejays and Packers fan. Sports betting is a huge passion of mine and I have been successful and profitable every year in the NHL for the last 5 years.
