Prediction: Joe Thornton PTS + SOG Over 3 (+130)

Key Points:

  • Thornton averaging 3 shots and a point per game during the playoffs.
  • Thornton averaging 2 points and 4 shots a game on home ice during the playoffs.
  • Thornton 3-0 to the over 3 total on home ice in the playoffs.
  • Sharks averaging 36 shots per game.
  • Virtual must win game for the Sharks and Thornton needs to lead the way being the captain.

The Sharks pulled off a big win in game three to make it a series against the Kings. The ending to game two and three were eerily similar as both teams were on 5 on 3′s and went on to win it once it was 5 on 4. Logan Couture was the hero for the Sharks with a top cheese wrister that Quick didn’t have much hope on. The powerplay was the main key to the winning team in games two and three. In game two the Kings went 3 for 6 on the PP and in game three the Sharks were 2 for 5. 5 on 5 this series has been very even so whoever has the most success in game three will likely walk away a winner. Through the first three games the Sharks have held a large edge in shots as they have outshot the Kings 106-78. The Sharks have fired 30+ shots on Quick in every single game so far. Quick has been the sharper goalie but Niemi has held his own as well. This should be another very tight game with the less disciplined team walking away a loser.

If the Sharks are to win game four they will need another big game from their captain Joe Thornton along with other guys like Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture. Thornton was excellent in game 3 as he registered 3 shots, an assist and 4 hits. Thornton is the Sharks captain and must lead by example again tonight. Assuming a points + shots total of 3 in each of his playoff games Big Joe is 3-2-2 to the over. On home ice however Thornton is a perfect 3-0 to this total. Thornton averaged just over 2 shots per game at home during the regular season along with a point per game. On the road he wasn’t nearly as good as he averaged around 1.5 shots a game and 0.75 points per game. Thornton has 8 points in these playoffs thus far including 6 points in 3 home games. Most of the Sharks players feast on home ice and are just average on the road. Thornton is averaging 3 shots a game so far in the playoffs so he has clearly picked up his shooting for the second season. The Sharks are averaging 36 shots a game as well during these playoffs so expect another strong effort from their best players once again tonight.

Captains are named for a reason and they are expected to lead their team offensively, emotionally and have strong leadership attributes inside the dressing room. Joe Thornton exemplifies all of these qualities and he should elevate his game once again tonight. He tends to play much better on home ice and he should be more aggressive shooting wise tonight and with all of these stats I think there is a very good chance he goes over the 3 total in points and shots.

Pick: Joe Thornton PTS + SOG Over 3 (+130)

I grew up an avid sports fan and that transitioned to sports betting for me at the age of 21. I have always been obsessed with numbers and stats and used to keep track of my own player and team stats back before the internet took off. I would say fantasy sports was the springboard that led me to sports betting as I liked the competitiveness and rewards of it. I have a regular 9-5 job as well and learned the hard way many years ago that it is very tough to make a living off of gambling. For me I treat it more of a hobby now and as an income supplement. Having money on the game makes the games all that more enjoyable (and stressful sometimes) and I find myself watching sports I would never watch due to this. Hockey is definitely my bread and butter as I know the sport inside and out. I am from BC, Canada and am an avid Canucks fan. I also am a big Bluejays and Packers fan. Sports betting is a huge passion of mine and I have been successful and profitable every year in the NHL for the last 5 years.
