Prediction: Erik Karlsson SHOTS ON GOAL OVER 3 @ +100

Key Points:

  • Karlsson had 5 shots on goal in Game 3
  • Karlsson was on the ice for 39 minutes and 48 seconds last game
  • Karlsson has had 3 or more shots in 3 of last 5 games
  • Pens will be frustrated which will lead to power-play opportunities

So tonight the Ottawa Senators welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins for Game 4, after an incredible comeback in the final seconds of game 3 to force OT, eventually resulting in an Ottawa win in double OT. The faces of the Penguins players, along with their actions really expressed their feelings for the result, as they looked disgusted, and several players shattered their own sticks across the medium of their choice. That is entirely understandable, and who wouldn’t be pissed off after all of that? What impact this will have on the game tonight will remain to be seen, but almost always when the Pens get in this scenario, they do not play to their full potential.

A lot of the Penguins players are very emotional, and not enough of them are mature enough to handle this emotion and continue to play smart hockey in the event of such an outcome as last game. There are a few key players here that I suspect won’t handle the game 3 loss as appropriately as they should, and it’s going to result in numerous bad turnovers, penalties, etc. Players such as Malkin, Cooke, and Letang are notorious for their poor choices in emotional games. I don’t know if their anticipated poor choices tonight will result in a Pens loss, but I am certain it will result in several power-play opportunities for the Senators.

Karlsson has one of the most wicked shots from the point in the entire NHL, and the Senators will rely on him for that ability during the aforementioned power-play chances, and accordingly, I think he will get numerous shots on goal tonight. The Senators are not the most offensive teams in the NHL, and therefore they will rely on the few players that CAN do the shooting. Karlsson is absolutely one of those players, and he will be a key factor in tonight’s game. If the Sens want a chance of having this series tied at 2-2 going back to Pittsburgh, they will need Karlsson to step up and get the puck on net tonight.

Look for a strong performance Karlsson up top tonight on the power-play as a direct result of the poor choices of Penguins players such as Malkin, Cooke, and Letang.

Pick: Senators 3rd period Moneyline (+105)
